Feminism started its roots in making sure women had access to the same rights that men did (back when they legally didn't have them). It had, and still has, nothing to do with men's rights, only women's.

I have met many feminists. Even the most reasonable ones that I met, although they were aware of men's issues (and didn't deny them), their focus still remained on women's issues. I'm not saying that's a problem (men's rights only focuses on men's issues), but I do have a problem with people claiming feminism is about equality for both genders, while they only actually care about one side.

The reason I have a problem with that is because it kind of invalidates any other movement: "Oh you're interested in helping men's issues? Come join us, the feminists! We care about both genders!". And many people (myself included) bought into that lie. Both men and women have social and legal issues, and it's good for people to stand up for them and help them. But invalidating other movements because you claim your movement supports both genders (while it really doesn't), is quite messed up in my opinion.

You might then claim the "Ah, but those are not real feminists" argument. To which I will refer you to Karen Straughan's excellent rebuttal. You might also wonder "But aren't feminists the ones who said men can be raped too?" To which the answer is... kind of. They're the ones who instantiated that rape must require to be penetrated, and a rapist must penetrate the other. In other words: They made it so that women cannot be seen as rapists. They only care about men being raped, as long as the bad guy is a man (which is a recurring theme in feminism).

To summarize, I have no problem with people working for women's rights. I have a problem with feminists lying about the fact that they're trying to help both genders.
