Nope. Sure don't. Because it never was. From the outset it was about controlling men. The first thing women did with the vote was send legislators to DC who supported the Temperance movement and Prohibition, just to control men's drinking of alcohol.

To stave off people with only Wikipedia-level knowledge: women received the vote in about a dozen states before they received the vote on a federal level. This means they were able to vote for the senators and representatives who voted to ratify the Eighteenth Amendment. Prohibition would literally never have come to pass if women had not been given the vote. It was actually a campaign point used against women's suffrage that failed: "Giving women the vote means giving them the right to take away your whiskey!" Thanks, ladies, for the rise of organized crime and the development of the mafia!

I always thought that there was a wave, or at least a kind of feminism that is about equality. I can give an example of one feminist who I believe to be an equality feminist.

Christina Hoff Sommers is who I consider an equality feminist. I do not know if she is truly a feminist, because the reality may be that feminism was never about equality.

Christina Hoff Sommers calls herself a feminist. However I think she is not one, because she is not an enemy of men.

Contemporary feminism is based on Patriarchy Theory. This is the false idea that men constitute a social class which has oppressed and exploited another social class, women, for thousands of years.

The natural and inevitable consequence of such an ideology is to conclude that men and women are enemies. Observation of feminists in action confirms that this is the case.

Wow. Thanks so much for clearing this up for me. This is really well written, and clearly I am quite junior in the community. I tip my hat to you.

Thank you for your kind words.

I have in fact been involved in men's rights for a long time, so I've had plenty of practice. :)

Of course, these are my own opinions and Ms Sommers herself may well disagree with my analysis.

Always good to learn from people who know more than you

Whatever happened in the past it's my experience that today, some women who call themselves feminists are actually reasonable people. I have women in my life who call themselves that and I wouldn't have anything to do with them if they unfair opinions.

Above all, were all humans. That's what should matter.

Yeah, I remember that mythical time well.

Sorry about the last post, that one had a miswritten title, hope you can understand

[–]liztu_june 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism was always about female issue and never about eqaulity.

I wasn't alive in 1980 so no.

I don't, I must not be old enough. If it ever was.
