So I’m sure by now everybody is aware of the whole George Floyd situation. The protest have been all over the media and everybody is pissed. Now I’m not claiming to be an expert here about any of this so if I’m completely off base here I’ll be more than happy to take the heat. Now based on the sub your reading this on you probably know where I’m going with this.
What bothers be a lot about this is the blatant favouritism of those that go on about identity politics. Let’s be real the only reason this even got any press was cause it was done to a black guy. If this guy was white or even another race there wouldn’t nearly be the same amount of outrage. now I’m definitely not saying this attack of any of the previous attacks were not based on racist intentions, that is not my argument and you can have your own opinions on the matter.
But notice how race is the only factor that’s being considered here? Despite the fact that its mostly men who are killed by the cops nobody who is constantly talking about identity politics is willing to mention that? I mean this issue is something that almost exclusively affects black men yet their race is the only thing being mentioned here. Why is there such a blind spot by those who specifically advocate for victims based on race, gender groups?
I have a few thoughts on this whole situation:
-
Abuse of police authority is problem that’s needs to be dealt with. Yes I’m sure sometimes its racially motivated but police have killed plenty of civilians of other races aside from black as well. Based on the data I’ve seen. To me this shows that there are multiple factors at play here not just racism. There’s a clear abuse of power which isn’t surprising to me since power always have a high chance of corrupting when in the wrong hands
-
It’s almost always black men who are the targets of these attacks. It’s very clearly also a mens issue yet its only treated as a racial one. Mens are over 90% of police arrest. Yet no one cares. It just seems very hypocritical to claim bias when black people are Majority of police brutality victims yet completely omit the fact its Also men. If you’re going to advocate against police corruption based on races you should also include gender and not just selectively pick and choose the identity group you want to talk about in a given issue. All of this just seems to be gynocentrism at play and complete distraction from the real issue.
I’m sure I’ve made plenty of people upset. My wording is probably way off as well. I wrote this late at night right before bed. Ill be happy to clarify anything or get “owned” tomorrow. Even if I’m not around, i hope this gets a discussion going. Again I’m no expert just a college student learning shit. So it’s very possible I’m a completely dumbass and you all can educate me XD.
Tl;dr: issues affecting black men exclusively are labelled racial issue even through they’re are also by definition gender exclusive as well. Shouldn’t they be both a racial AND gender issue?

I never said or denied there wasn’t any racism involved. Let me make my point clearer. I find it hypocritical to only bring race into this when gender clearly plays a role in police brutality as well. You wouldn’t see a nonaggressive women treated this harshly by the police. I am fully aware there’s racial tension in the state’s. I have my doubts it’ll ever go away (but that’s something for another time). Im not arguing against history and is well aware it definitely plays a role.
I’m also fully aware there’s nothing to be gained by including men in their fight cause obvious they’re biologically disposable. Worthless as a group & burden even. So I’m fully aware this won’t change for the better. I’m just disappointed by the double standard of treatment when it comes to racial & gender issues. We mention when something negative impacts a certain group of people & call it racist, sexist etc. but when men are included in said group we just “conviently” leave it out.

I’m fully aware of the technicalities involved. But the people aka “progressives” usually don’t believe in those things (unless they make men look bad). I mean there are studies that show black people are more violent than other races, there’s also evidence that show black peoples committing the highest proportion of crime compared to other races. Does it justify anything? Of course not.
So isn’t it a bit hypocritical that “progressives” justify it when it happens to men but outrage when it’s black men?
Again I’m fully aware of the whole racial tension & that’s probably why only race will ever be talked about regarding this issue. But you gotta admit it’s a tad bit hypocritical especially when someone who believes they’re a “progressive” and “on the right side of history” and someone who claims to be more “tolerant” brings up race but fail to bring up gender. Even though bringing up both would technically be more progressive like actually progressive.

Alright I’m wrong then. I hope you’ve also done fact checking on violent crime between men & women. And not just blindly believed it cause it lined up with your anecdotes. Well in that case I don’t really have a case here I’ll accept defeat. May I ask what’s your reasoning to claim there’s a bias & then say men commit most of the crimes? Wouldn’t the police be right in their assessment to treat men more harshly? Isn’t it completely legitimate?

One last question I guess. If you agree a bigger man is a threat & extra measure need to be put to retrain him. When the time comes & its a black man & white cop. How would you know it’s not due to his race? What metric could you use? Or would it be racist in every scenario? Have fun with that XD

Let me simplify. How can you tell if a cop is being racist or not with a 100% accuracy when people of different races are involved.
