It's highly unlikely that you or HR can truly change this girl's attitude or POV. The only thing you can control is yourself. When she talks to you about vapid things; when she seems your approval, be neutral. You don't have to play into the games of lesser minded females, we all know that. Just smile politely and refuse to acknowledge her insecurity. Eventually she'll leave you alone, because you won't be feeding her ego. Eventually, if many adults do that for her, she will stop seeking validation at the work place for non- work related merit.
