It's seems she didn't want to say "I love you" because she didn't think it would end well, not because she didn't feel love for him. It really has nothing to do with pair bonding and more with men reacting poorly in her past.

Sorry, no examples from fiction allowed. Remember that authors can choose to have characters behave in whatever fashion they choose, whether or not it is realistic for someone to do so.

I'm sorry, my example was that my husband recognized this, despite his lack of exposure, not that that's what it necessarily was, but that's how he saw it as a man. Should I delete the post? Should I edit it?
