i do the same, sometimes using the electric for a pre trim to get the hairs down to size. after they're smooth as eggs, i suggest powdering them, baby powder will suffice, then you will enjoy them even more as they don't stick to the side of your leg

It's very nice that you're thinking of landscaping. However I would suggest a trim instead of a shave unless you plan to shave every time before sex. The reasoning is that if you shave and decide to have sex a day or two later without shaving again your pubic hair turns into a horrible landscape of sand paper to a vagina. Those little hairs are sharp instead of dull and rub vigorously on the sensitive skin of a vagina causing soreness and a woman wont be able to go as long or as frequently. While you having a shaven package is nice for blowjobs it's a deterrent for sex. Try something similar to this for trimming down there.

I use my cruzer body http://www.braun.com/global/male-grooming/cruzer-shavers-and-trimmers/cruzer-body.html in the bathtub. Gets it all smooth in 2-3 minutes. You don't want a hairy sack down there if you want to get anything done.

dont do it very often because im lazy, but use electric trimmer, then a cream called "hair no more"
