Summary: What time is and how to use it correctly.

Body:

A limited and valuable resource

  • Time is a resource
    • Time is quantifiable : my workout lasts 1 hour.
    • Time is usable : I can convert my time into knowledge by reading, I can work to convert time into money.
  • Time is limited :
    • Available time decrement each second until you die.
    • You can't get any time back : you can't buy it, you can optimize its use but you still lose some.
  • Time is precious :
    • Every second not used is lost : time is spent but you don't get anything in return.
    • Time can be converted into anything.

Invest your time

  • Time, as other resources, can and must be invested
    • Investing your time into learning, working or having fun is converting it into another resource with a rarely quantifiable ratio.
  • The return on investment can and must be estimated to do optimal choices
    • Spending 15 minutes of your life to do something you can do in 1 is a loss of profitability
    • Rentability linked to your time applies everywhere, even in relationships
    • Rentability is linked to durability : spending 45 mins to play your favorite videogame for a 1 minute long dopamine shot isn't as worth as working 45 mins to pay your bills
    • Rentability isn't linked to ease : something easy doesn't mean something worth.

Balance your use of time

  • Most of your satisfactions which give you a lot of pleasure for a little time don't have any durability
  • Free pleasure/fun is almost always paid with your time
  • Current society impacted our satisfaction sense, efforts and results can give you hapiness
  • Impose yourself more and more effort time with variable rentability and durability (short and long term), to understand that effort pays off.
  • Separate logic and emotions, an emotion is ephemeral, it takes time that could be used a better way.
  • Set goals, split them into tasks and sub-tasks, estimate time and effort needed for each and complete it.
  • Balance your time between effort and pleasure to stay sane otherwise it will impact your rentability.

Conclusion: Time is a resource, it has to be invested correctly to get what you want and need in life.

EDIT : Fixed a few mistakes.
