Post numbers. Weight. Height.

Also, don't listen to what a women say.

Coming from a retail enviroment, I can tell you the truth. Customers and co-workers alike are jealous of you. You're feeding their inferiority complex by 'being too good' and 'having everything'. They probe your psyche for weaknesses, handles that they can use to manipulate you. They try to make you feel bad because it proves to them they aren't powerless (they are)

Can it really be that they're jealous? I never got that vibe, but I could very much be wrong. Then again they seem to get quiet and kinda depressed when I say my age (19) and am going into medicine/pharmaceuticals. Why does retail make people jealous?

You're out there scraping up a living like everyone else, but when you say 19 and that you're going to pharma afterwards, they know you're in the right place at the right time. You've got the blank slate that you can ride to greatness, they have a sense of inadequacy for their wasted years and no way out of the hole they dug into.

Who knows though. The reason you don't see manuals on how to handle people is because they're a crapshoot. They might look sad when you say you're 19 because they want you drunk and in bed. Or maybe they're too old, while your list of compatible partners grows every year. Maybe their parents never loved them--whatever. The best you can do be polite, ask your co-workers to be polite, and forgive the women when they act out.

Why do you want to be seen as intimidating? Is it possible that people, especially older people, see you as trying too hard and are trying to bring you down a peg or two?

[–]ThinQuestion0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't want to appear intimidating per se, like I want people to be scared of me. I don't understand how they feel so free to give snide remarks and talk to me like I'm a weak child. Like if you see a bouncer in a club big dude with a bald head and a silent demeanor would you roast him or even try to pull anything around him? I'm not saying I'm that tough, it's just an example.

When I see a bouncer, I don't know him, and he looks big, so I treat him with respect. How do strangers treat you?

I'm guessing there's something about your personality that your friends know about, through spending time with you, maybe what you used to be like etc, that means they still see you as a certain way. It could be worth asking one friend for the purpose of identifying a problem and fixing it.
