Often boys' toys are much more training-based whereas girls' toys are more nurturing. It's sending at an early message of what's expected in a child's future.

Well of fucking course it's sending that message. It's saying "Hey Jimmy, one day you're going to have to hunt food or your family will starve to death so you better be strong" and it's saying "Hey Sarah, make sure you practice how to take care of your children or they'll die and your adventure passing on your genes will come to an early end". I'm guessing this has something to do with what nature (that thing outside your house that governs existence) has been doing for billions of years, but I have a penis, so take whatever I say with a dump truck full of salt.
