Despite the fact I'm been reading and practicing TRP for the past 2 months, you can still get blindsided when you least expect it. This was not in a sexual strategy situation, it was in a personal/professional capacity.

I contracted for a service with a friend of the family, and had a 'definite' delivery date for a product. He called in order to inform me that this delivery date would need to change, why it was changing, and said that 'compensation' for this lateness would come from him. Without asking for explanation on what that (from him) meant, I insisted that compensation would not be necessary.

Now, reflecting back on this, this was total beta behavior. I did not assert my personal priorities, I supplicated because of the potential impact to this individual without even verifying that compensation for the late delivery would in fact come from this person. Honestly, no established business would allow someone to assume a personal expense in the course of business operations.

What I should have done was respectfully remind him of the contract we had in place, the expectations that were set, the expectations that had not been met, the consequences on my end for not meeting those expectations, and insist on a course of action that would not have left me holding the entire bag.

Instead, I said it was cool, and that I needed a new date for delivery, as I had made specific plans for this 'window', and no longer have that availability anymore. I don't know what I should have done, but eating it was dumb, and gives him license to abuse this in the future.

Lesson: Always always always check your own desires and priorities before making decisions, rather than taking it on yourself.
