What makes you think there's a trade-off between these two?
How about when you want women as pure friends (no romantic or sexual interest), maybe philosophical chat?
No sexual interest, then treat her like a dude. That doesn't necessarily mean you should treat her like one of your crew mates. But her having a vagina is irrelevant so just treat her like she didn't have one.
