It is, in its strictest definition, talking about the amateur socio sexual social science (say that 4 times fast) people like Roissy, Dalrock, Rollo and others write about. Using facts and data to uncover ugly truths, which are generally the opposite of the regular Enlightenment movement of the 1700's, wherein man was a blank slate, a rational actor, and generally viewed as good.

More loosely, it applies to all sorts of blogs that take on conventional knowledge about society, mankind, gender, race, institutions, religion, morals, etc...

As for the Red Pill, this is just a metaphor for waking up to the truth. It can be applied to anything. In the case of this subreddit, it is somewhat narrowly tailored for modern sexual relations (and relations between the sexes).

I'd call it the natural result of giving everyone a voice, relative anonymity, and hordes of data. Knowledge and debate is now divorced from the politically correct feudalism of academia.
