This guy has some good insight into the college education fiasco being perpetrated in this country right now. I was lucky enough to wake up half way through pursuing my political science degree (worthless, unless I wanted to double down with law school after), and dropped out 2 years ago. now, 2 years later I am making good money as a sys admin using nothing a but a little can-do attitude and some hard work. Unless you are pursuing a degree in a hard science I would strongly reconsider a college education if you can make bank doing anything else.

Might I ask how you got into sys admin? What skillset do you need? Is a lot of coding needed or?

that depends on what kind of sys admin you want to be. if you go the linux route (there is alot more money to be made here), then yes, you will need coding skills. I am more of a windows admin, and most of the 'coding' I do is with windows powershell and vbscript. if you are an enterprise level windows admin a lot of your focus will be on automation and then a coding mindset will be needed, but for an SMB type admin you will not need to worry about automation as much. in either scenario the ability to problem solve on the fly and think creatively to fix problems are a must. I got in to it by doing lower level helpdesk and just applying myself to learn whatever technologies I came into contact with and standing out above my peers.

Was stoned off my ass on my couch one day and said to myself, "what the fuck am I doing by pursuing an economics degree? I don't want to do this shit for life!"

Switched over to computer science (something I wanted from the beginning but the major was full at the time) within two weeks and never regretted it. Cut back on the weed as well back to recreational levels.

Even business degrees are useless.

There is an amazing amount of business and liberal arts students in my college compared to all the other programs availiable. Looks like they all got trolled to hell and back.

An acquaintance of mine has a business degree and he's working as a manager in a fast food store.

Get a real degree and a business minor.
