It's rather clever but yes, the girl already has to be into you to be looking for an explicit declaration of affection like this.

However, I must say that the idea is clever and I am filing it away for future use.

A common garbage drivel you hear from women, your mother, or Blue Pillers is "Oh, but does she like you?" when you're wondering if you should make a move on a girl you find attractive.

Fuck their advice.

Be attractive. Improve your value. Lift. Sidebar. Game. Purpose.

Approach her, game her, and you can sense from IOIs if she's attracted to you. And even then, give yourself the benefit of the doubt: some women won't give you IOIs, and IOIs aren't always a reliable indicator of attraction. Escalate and find out for yourself.

In the female mind, such acts simply wreak of desperation and are a total turn off. I expect that she never spoke to this man again after seeing his "masterpiece".

He would have been far better off fabricating a fake attractive girlfriend and telling his crush about how happy he is with her, and that they can only be friends from now on.

Not only does his SMV increase in her eyes, but he is now forbidden fruit. Within a week she would have been messaging him asking to spend time together, trying to take him away from his imaginary girlfriend.
