You've probably known her for awhile, your oneitis.

She's held your affection for a long time. Given the age of myself, and the majority of the members of this board, you've probably known her since high school, your first year of college, whatever. Since then, you've been close, but she's never been that close. She's always been outside of your grasp, but if you were just a little closer, a little better, you think that some day, she'll wake up and realize that you're the one she wants, needs, and you're the man that she'll want.

I'm here to give you the splash of cold water.

She's not going to change her mind.

She's going to take everything you give her. Your time. Your affections. Your attention. She'll take every single bit of it, but she'll give you nothing back.

Chances are she's pretty. Nevermind, gorgeous. You've been stricken for awhile now, and she knows it. She's been conditioned to this being the norm, because she's got a dozen other guys doing the same thing.

Where you, and myself (for a time), mess up, is that we get nothing of value out of this exchange. We see this person as some ideal, some wonderful creature that, if we just learned the correct approach, we could capture.

I'm here to tell you it will never happen as long as you're seeking her. As your read this, you're going to have to make a decision. Do you want to continue this relationship with this girl? An exchange where you give your (limited) time, affection, and attention to someone who provides nothing to you? Or do you move on, to other women who, believe it or not, are waiting for a man like you.
