I would caution you about leaping to conclusions.

Remember that the goal of boxing is to sell tickets. Good fighter/Evil fighter is a narrative that sells.

Never assume that anything you see on television reveals anything about the actual character and habits of the people you are watching. "Manny Pacquiao" and "Floyd Mayweather" are both commerial products, carefully packaged to appeal to your wallet.

This is why we do not allow "red pill examples" from fiction. And make no mistake, boxing is fiction.

I think calling boxing fictionis going too far. From what I've researched, Manny Pacquiao's story is real. And I'm not just talking about documentaries and the current narratives, I've also researched some old news about him before he beat Oscar Dela Hoya. As for Mayweather, I agree that his character is fictional, but it is his own fiction of himself, thus, it is closer to a strategy of how he will market himself, instead of WWE type of fiction.

Indeed, good vs. evil is a narrative that sells, therefore, it will be better if such a narrative will be marketed. But if boxing is really that fictional, such a narrative could've been used more often. But I know of no such extreme narrative as this even in the time of Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. And if my memory serves me right, even then Muhammad Ali is a fan favorite unlike Floyd Mayweather.

Also, another boxer that had a no-lose record existed back in the 90's. His name is Ricardo Lopez, but his toughest fight with another boxer (1st match draw, rematch won) wasn't narrated like this. And it was already the time where boxing is starting to decline, but nobody did the Mayweather-Pacquiao narrative.

While it is true that boxing isn't as famous as it used to be, boxing has already been not so popular since long, so if the scriptwriters could make this fiction in the world-wide sport of boxing, they could've done the good vs. evil narrative sooner using more marketable faces such as Oscar Dela Hoya, or other known fighters such as Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield (though some have labelled Tyson as the bad guy here, it happened after he surpringly bit Evander's ear, not before the fight where the opportunity increase ticket sales is there).

As far as my reasoning can see it, the Mayweather-Pacquiao and its Evil-Good narrative is a coincidence that is closer to organic than fictional. Two skilled boxers with this kind of story rose up. If anything, their stories are marketing opportunities for boxing, rather than a marketing fiction.

Lastly, the crux of my post isn't a red pill man example, but more of an insight on pragmatism over moralism.

That is pretty much all can spare to write with a moblie phone for now.
