Very interesting. I love the art of manliness.

I think that I'm pretty good with my voice. I remember hearing my voice in a recording and I was shocked at how deep it was.

What I always wonder about though is accents. I'm from Essex in the UK which if you don't know is known to have a really bad accent. I try to talk in a neutral accent as much as possible but sometimes if I replay what I just said, I can sound unsophisticated.

I'm in the inverse, my voice is naturally deep and if I don't try to speak more neutrally people may not understand what I'm saying or I feel like I'm giving an impression of redneck-ery.

I'm from the coast of Texas, so unlike the higher pitched (and more famous)Plains Texas accent where spoken words are spaced with small pauses and spoken slower with frequent up inflection, it flows together and is spoken in more subdued tones. My accent is pretty thick and when meeting people who aren't so "rural" I try to neutralize it, I can imagine it would give me some mystery in foreign and US but not southern places but it's usually a communication barrier.

Here's what's helped me a lot, people hate monotone and repetitive speech more than anything, just try to vary your speech subtly and just like you already do, when emphasizing or de-emphasizing what your saying, if you employ it often it allows people to easily sort between vital and not vital bits of speech so their mind isn't bogged down with the boring details. Longer anecdotes are a breeze, brevity is always best but sometimes you have to say a lot more.

good advice, makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

Everyone in Essex is used to there own accent, so there is no need to change it or try a neutral accent.

My voice is pretty deep too, so I'm not too worried myself. But for me, I have occasionally slipped into uptalk (depending on who I am around). This article as well as TRP helps me kill some of my old habits. Uptalk/vocal fry is unbecoming for a red pill male.

*grammar.

I read quite a bit and I practice reading out aloud to help my voice/speech etc...

What I don't get is how boring I sound when I do it. Perhaps it's because I had a fear of reading aloud in English class at school. I don't know. I'd like to learn how to read and make it sound interesting but I think it maybe some vocal techniques like uptalk or something which I'm not grasping at an intellectual level.

I second this. People also misunderstand me cause of my deep voice, so I think that attributes to why I may use Uptalk sometimes.

What also helps me is listening and rapping along to rap music. Vocal Fry usually won't fly with that music, imo.

Yeah, I've tried rapping to things to. I need to practice it more.

Submission Statement: So much is said about how males in the U.S and possibly other western countries speak with a effeminate 'vocal fry' voice. This article offers some constructive advice on how speak with a manly voice, what the benefits are for have a strong, authoritative voice. For folks who already do this, this need not apply, but for others who are still killing their 'beta' ways, this may be helpful.

Fucking great article. I can say I have been guilty, at times, of lowering my voice. Thanks for sharing.
