Solaris, one of the original MGTOW guys, has an interesting theory about danger and risk in contemporary society. Western Culture has become increasingly risk intolerant, particularly with regard to child rearing. No longer are boys and young men encouraged to engage in rough or dangerous behavior. Rather, if they are big risk takers, they are often medicated and their behavior is modified towards docileness. Not only does this tamp down on natural masculinity, pushing men away and not towards the things, like adventure, they need to be happy, but it also selects for natural female behavior. This is could be why women are more successful in school than men.

In any case, I came across this brilliant Nietzsche quote about the importance of living dangerously. A little context: Nietzsche started as a nihilist, believing that the world was devoid of meaning. As he developed as a philosopher, his thinking changed and he found meaning in the idea of the Superman, special men who relentlessly pursue achievement and greatness. This quote was the beginnings of that realization.

"I greet all the signs that a more manly, warlike age is coming, which will, above all, bring valor again into honor! For it has to prepare the way for a yet higher age, and assemble the force which that age will one day have need of - that age which will carry heroism into knowledge and wage war for the sake of ideas and their consequences. To that end many brave pioneers are needed now...: men who know how to be silent, solitary, resolute...who have an innate disposition to seek in all things that must be overcome in them: men to whom cheerfulness, patience, simplicity and contempt for the great vanities belong just as much as do generosity in victory and indulgence towards the little vanities of the defeated: ... men with their own festivals, their own work days, their own days of mourning, accustomed to and assured in command and equally ready to obey when necessary, equally proud in the one case as the other, equally serving their own cause: men more imperilled, more fruitful, happier men! For believe me! - the secret of realizing the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment of existence is: to live dangerously! Build your cities on the slopes of Vesuvius! Send your ships into uncharted seas! Live in conflict with your equals and with yourselves! Be robbers and ravages as long as you cannot be rulers and owners, you men of knowledge!" - Friedrich Nietzsche
