The problem about Facebook and dating sites is that women generally hold the power. When you are face to face you can charm, you can wit, you can neg, you can be hot, you can have social proof, but online none of this really applies. You can still be hot, but your wit is watered down, her attention can never be 100%, there is no physical escalation, you are severely limited. The only time my facebook approaches worked were when I was a barista and would flirt with girls who came in. I'd have their name, I'd have a great opener and I'd have a very quick activity we could both do face to face. The only reason I'd do facebook is because I know what they look like and I know their name, but I'm not willing to stop what I'm doing and ask for her number in front of a crowd of impatient customers. My success rate with this was maybe 25% coffee date. Social media is a very easy place for girls to make ridiculous assumptions about your character and they'll often be offended and stop talking to you if you try and turn it on them. You can't be nearly as charismatic online.

I'm a big fan of using everything that's at your disposal for pick up, so if you have no other way of interacting, I'd do it. But using facebook already comes off as very beta, so you'll be working from an even bigger disadvantage than normal, unless you are ripped and have a lot of female friends with cute dogs and cameras. Then you'll be good...

I had a roommate that literally just told a girl she was cute, then invited her to come over to his apartment and they had sex. He did that a lot when he texted girls or messaged girls on facebook. He was simply to the point and didn't mess around.

Just a personal anecdote, the plate I'm seeing fairly often now (who might I mention, is the closest thing to LTR material I've found out of the last 7 or so plates) I made quasi first contact with on facebook. She came over to hang out with my friends (both male and female) at my place. After hanging out, she leaves, and I send a message on facebook simply indicating my interest, and specifics about what we would be doing if she was inclined to hang some more. It worked and things are going smoothly. However consider social media a tool in your arsenal for spreading influence. Use it sparingly but use it when necessary. In my case I had a name and 1 face to face interaction under the belt so I already had some advantage, instead of just a name and a thought that this girl is attractive.

You cant (generally) just willy nilly fire off a message with someone you really haven't had a good proper face to face interaction with. Like I said, when you deem facebook to be a useful tool... However it is not a crutch... it is simply not reliable.

This cute chick from high school recently requested to be my friend, out of the blue. We talked a bit in high school, but I never pursued her because 1) she had a boyfriend who I was relatively cool with and 2) my friend wanted to get at her. We had one class together, and I would catch her glancing my way a lot, and she would laugh at pretty much everything I said. My question is, since she added me (strange that we were never friends on fb before but...) is this an easy lay? I haven't responded to it yet and I probably will forget to in the next couple of days.

She's in town for the holidays btw, she goes to uni across the country.
