Hello gents, I remember reading a fantastic post on here but I can't remember what it was called.
The basic take-away for me and I believe I remember it because it was bold. It read ''I don't matter that much, and I'm okay with that''. Now optimistic nihilism is basically that.
So we're a tiny part of the universe essentially, and for people who can't escape existential thoughts, this is always looming over your head. The problem is, you can settle into a nice long depression if you dwell on how fruitless every individual life is. If I die tomorrow, the earth will continue spinning on its axis and orbit around the sun, which will continue to orbit the milky way, which in turn is doomed to an endless descent into the infiniteness which is 'our known universe'.
The problem with this is that far too many people fail to see the upswing to the black-hole that is nihilism. You can spend your life trying to fight the exceptional gravitational field that the black hole has you trapped in (I.e not addressing your existential thoughts or w/e). Yet, wouldn't it be much easier just surrendering to the gravity..? I mean, sure, you'd be ripped apart slowly towards the end of your journey but I mean, the time it takes to get there is Your life. So once you start getting pulled into a blackhole's gravity there's almost no chance of you escaping, so with the knowledge that you're never going to escape, why fight it? Why not just make the most of the time you have now?!
This is where I like to think of myself as an optimistic nihislist, the analogy was in all honesty made up on the spot but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say.
Even if you don't matter much, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try. It just means that you've given yourself freedom to do whatever the fuck you want. If you don't matter much. That is fucking okay, because neither does the prick who you feel bad for Amogging. Neither does that girl who just rejected you very rudely. Neither do you. So stop being such a fucking pussy and address your existential thoughts. If you have them I guess. I suppose It'd be interesting to hear some older guys thoughts on this. I'm still relatively young. You choose what matters.
