For those who don't know: Pattaya is a world reknowned nightlife and prostitute mecca. Just 3 hours SE of Bangkok, Pattaya became a center for pleasures of the flesh during the Vietnam War as American soldiers took R&R and needed to get their rocks off. Tim Sharky is a local figure, a 'celebrity of ill repute' we might say. He was a night club owner in Australia before settling in Pattaya where he sells protection to prostitutes (some call it pimping).

They regularly shake down tourists for bribes by detaining them, planting drugs, or administering a urine test that gives a false positive. Every once in a while the papers run stories about it but virtually the entire police enterprise around the country runs on corruption. It is, as Sharky describes it, mafia with badges. Bullies with badges. Quite often there are news reports of expats that "fell off" their balcony to their demise. Murder is common and life is cheap here. Knowing this should make his performance against the police that much more impressive to you.

When the cops try to control him he refuses to be controlled, even choosing where he stands. He explains how they work on fear, they smell fear. Without fear they can't operate.

He slept for 3 nights in a holding cell wearing all of his gold. He refused to be tricked into giving it to the cops or intimidated by the other inmates. "Your persistence is making it difficult for all of us." He enjoys being a thorn in their side. He sees them for what they are. He knows how the game is played and he refuses to back down.

Time v Money. He'll run out of time before he runs out of money. Using prostitutes is about having absolute freedom and maintaining his own happiness.

What's the point of this post? Why am I showing you this stuff? Am I advocating that guys buy a plane ticket to Thailand and fuck hookers til their dying day? No, I'm not. Well, maybe. Determine what YOU want and do that thing. Don't be hamstrung by society's expectations or chasing your tail to get status in a culture you hate. I have lived in Thailand for a few years, I've visited Pattaya half a dozen times, and I've been in more go-go bars than I can count. I've never paid for a hooker's services. I have no desire to. I do what I want and I came to the conclusion a long time ago that I am not interested in sex for money. That being said I have nothing against guys that enjoy it. If it's your thing, go for it! You do you. Be authentic to who you are and apologize to no one for doing what you want.

I sense that I could get a beer with Sharky and just enjoy his company. We walk very different paths and yet I see that the wisdom he speaks is so similar to the wisdom I have collected. We are people that value authenticity, time, stoicism, freedom, and getting what we truly want regardless of what society thinks. These are RP values. Also--and this is not inconsequential--notice how he made an entire video in one take. He's not making a million little cuts and reading off of a script. He's speaking from his heart in a genuine and some might say vulnerable way.
