So long story short, broke up with clingy long distance gf (in another country), moved to a new state, and I am trying to find ways to network towards my success, but it has been a pain in the ass. I will put it this way, I am a religious minority where I am and the particular denomination here seems to have a control over the area. I have been going to tech meetups as well as working on an idea for an app, but I feel miserable. I was half debating joining the Masons, but I know they are not as powerful as they used to be. I also asked someone out at work and went terribly wrong and has kinda scarred me if I am honest. I have been working on my looks by getting rid of the glasses and (trying) to loose weight, but plan to get a gym membership soon but in the mean time I have cut out extra calories and have been walking (would join a gym now, but money has been tight). Long story short, I think I realize partially why I worry so damn much, in that I feel like an outsider (including at work) and I am afraid to share my gut, because a lot of it is "weird". This leads to thinking that most everyone seems like a sheep and would not be interesting in hearing what I have to say. Thus when I see mostly ordinary women that are shallow, I wonder if I am overthinking it and they are not meant to be "friends", if that makes any sense. I realize that marriage and even to some extent relationships (with the opposite sex) are overrated, but my head keeps pulling me in that direction, even when I try to work on projects, and as I said, it has been hard to network, since most people network through church. Any way to get around this when it is hard to even focus on interests?
