No, you need as much knowledge about as many things as possible because success is merely where preparation and opportunity (luck) intersect.

If you know nothing about running a business, then if an amazing business opportunity comes your way, you will not be able to use it.

Your post reads like an encouragement to stay uninformed about anything that's farther than 3 inches away from your nose (or your penis, to keep in with our 'sexual strategy' theme) because it's not 'directly relevant to your immediate goals'.

That's a narrow minded approach.

I don't think that's good advice on a reddit that endorses self-improvement.

Accumulated knowledge (along with experience, of course) create wisdom. Even random facts like turtle penis size may contribute - you can try that when hitting on a veterinary student.

You'd be surprised when and how random pieces of information collected through your lifetime prove useful and beneficial at unexpected times.

I was expecting a post about "hard work is part of the process. Put your nose to the grind stone, stop bitching about it and fucking do it" and instead I got "people like to procrastinate and stray off task. But blinkers on so you don't procrastinate".

Was hoping to find something to help keep me on task through the slog of revising for a Microbiology exam, but I suppose I answered my own question by reading your post.

I half agree. There's a ton of information availible to anyone with Internet access. Most people just use it for porn, but it's still availible to those who want it.

That said, I think we live in a world with far too much happening and we become distracted, then we do t take action, and then we stagnate. I think the correct solution is to be open to anything, but keep focused primarily on what you want as far as goals and interests go For example, I enjoy the idea of starting a business. It's not something I can do immediately. In fact, maybe I won't do it depending on how life goes, but I still like to read articles about how they work and what it takes to run them as well as hear stories from those that have owned them. I may not understand it all due to not having my own point of reference, but should I ever come across the situation I'll have a little information I can use as a springboard to seek the rest.

That said, as far as keeping up with things that don't I retest me, or celebrity news for example, that's just a waste entirely. Stick to information on things that could be useful and limit it to an amount you can retain. If you start getting bored and it doesn't concern your life, then drop it.

Being informed about something like politics, but not going into it, doesn't mean you wasted time learning about how it works.

As I learned in school, knowledge is power.
