Men don't really need to keep playing in the rat race if they dot have to buy shit for women.

Yes I find it odd for an MIT economics professor to make such a statement that a demographic is not responding to price signals. It's almost a central planning mindset. It takes a sort of hubris to believe one understands all of the factors in pricing better than the actors who are actual deciding for themselves.
