As per another EC's request, what we refer to as 'the hamster wheel' or just 'hamstering' is more scientifically referred to as

post-hoc rationalization

or rationalization after the event

It's when you follow your gut/instinct/impulse/horniness/oneitis and then afterwards make up logically sounding reasons why you did it.

Men do it too, sometimes, usually with poor results, but for women it's how they live their entire lives.

Hello everyone, I don't frequent here but stopped by after seeing a link here, and just a question...

While I think it would be a mistake to discredit any theory on the basis of it being offensive to a gender/race/religion/whatever and on the basis of avoiding hurting someone's feelfeels, what evidence is there for this theory? The format of the post itself is like that of a scientific thesis, but it's devoid of any actual science. As such the entire conclusion is more or less moot as it'd be a mistake to press onward while taking this conclusion as factual or credible without the proper scientific evidence backing it. This community is one I've heard criticized often, and thus I just feel the need to chime in, because while I would not discredit a community for daring to suggest a hurtful theory or idea, I do consider it very dangerous if a community develops into a echo chamber where theories quickly become factual despite not going through the steps to test them. I mean off the top of my head the last two women I was romantically involved with are polar opposites in this regard: the first of the two indeed had little accountability and moves forward constantly with an attitude of "I can't let the past hold me back," the latter was VERY bold about taking the bull by the horns when problems arose; I was actually more sensitive than her so while I could acknowledge mistakes made, she was often MORE brash about acknowledging mistakes to a level I found rather uncomfortable. Point being that in my experience this would largely be a matter of how one was raised, and that if anything this could only be a result of how women are handled culturally, which again even if one wishes to make that claim, you MUST go through the proper steps to prove that with some scientific basis.

My main concern reading this theory and other theories like this is that I feel plenty of people would read it, think "THAT MAKES SENSE AND MATCHES AN EXPERIENCE I HAD," then that would help develop into a prejudice affecting future contact with women.

I'm not trying to silence the message, the thought or the attitude daring to discuss such topics, merely feel compelled to remind that scientific evidence is important.

This touches on a woman's accountability.

Improvement is impossible without self reflection.

If you are not critiqued then you cannot get better.

But if the bar is lowered.... then we're all winners. And nothing gets done cuz we r soooooo cute and perfect.

The "Hamster Wheel" can be seen as a way of creating distance from past actions. It's an escape route where the goal is to evade blame. But within the mind of the woman who practices this "Hamster Wheel" thinking she perceives this in emotionally positive terms. In her mind the distancing of herself from the truth of her past is "Progress" and it makes her feel good.

This is not the definition of progress . This is just "avoiding blame" . In fact , how is progress possible when you " avoid something " ?

Women don't progress , they follow and copy other women. They take the safe route . That is not progress . That is consistency .

Remember, we are all sperms and eggs. Life happens to women. Men make things happen in their own lives. The egg positions itself in the uterus and waits to be breached. The sperm heads out on a journey into the void and searches for the egg. Upon finding the egg it attempts to breach and impregnate. These are the essential traits at play here and will never change.

Good post. Though this is just a guideline to a generalization. In fact, many beta males do follow the female pattern you have laid out, just as many women well past the wall (in old age) can come to follow the male equivalent pattern you put too.

This has been the hardest part of the pill for me to choke down. It has happened to me; women I've been with have "reinvented" themselves. I cognitively know this capacity exists and that it will definitely not change in my lifetime.

But this throws out any hope of sharing an LTR with any woman I see. I will probably get a vasectomy because I will not raise children with someone so capricious.

Is this based on academic theory, or just your thought on how people work?

Edit: It seems like a commentary on masculine/feminine ways of thinking, which definitely has an academic background, but the fact that you attribute these traits to strictly men and women gives the vibe that these are just some thoughts you had today.
