Yeah. One of the top comments - and the ensuing thread - has men recall their stories of becoming the stepdad only to have the children they so closely bonded with ripped from them mercilessly. I’m glad that kind of story is getting traction. Men who choose to go that route run a real risk of getting that heartbreak

But one detail that is conspicuous in it’s absence - the age of her child

She may not think so but people will judge her very differently is the kid is 10 or older (at 27) vs 2-3.

I have since learnt that omissions like this are almost certainly deliberate

And in the example above people would judge a man who had a child under 18. Of course they would. Maybe not as much. But they’d still say he shouldn’t have done it!

Also - “working towards leadership positions”. Give me a break. Not only do men not care and are not intimidated but this is the weirdest attempt at a brag ever.

Yeah she seems like a good person who, like a lot of single mothers in their 20s, are unfortunately on the wrong side of the difficulties of dating after you have had another man's child. Women just aren't taught this prior to picking their men and so more women are becoming selfish with their ambitions for a family, and foregoing the vetting of a capable father, in favor of raising a child alone.

As the top comment said, her top priority is to make it front and center that she has a kid. It's more important for her dating prospects than anything else about her, because it's heavy baggage that can't be misinterpreted. Her dating pool has gone from an ocean to a pond after becoming a mother, and considering how many options women have when they are childless, she still has a pretty good range of men to pick from if she keeps dating.

I assume her frustration is not realising how different her life would be after the kid. She isn't going to find perfection, so the million dollar question is if she is willing to settle for decent when every woman in her life has told her to aim higher than that. Maybe after some introspection, she will allow herself to be happy with a solid 6.
