I think that if he'd just written the first paragraph and stopped (and probably left out the last sentence as well, as buying gifts for a target girl not in solid girlfriend or wife territory, is often seen as creep and/or beta behavior) he might have gotten a little better discussion. The moment he talked about alpha (raver) fux and beta (eecs) bux, he sealed his fate in the comments - the white knights came out in full force here. (And anyhow - with the Sexual Revolution and the rise of career women, a 6-figure software engineer salary, and frequently in the sausagefest of the Bay Area at that, has lost much of its dating appeal.)

Hence, I'll write my thoughts here:

To paraphrase something I've read on this sub: women are not responsible for thugs giving them a black eye, but women ARE responsible for seeing the writing on the wall for thugs being violent and abusive bastards, yet engaging in cognitive dissonance to explain away these signs because the tingles were just too good to give up. Short of blunt brain trauma or similar dramatic occurrences, no one turns into an violent alcoholic or a serial abuser overnight.

In fairness - I've discussed this with a friend (with a girlfriend), who brought up something of a boiling frog analogy. One's partner may be well and good in the beginning, but then start engaging in increasingly concerning behavior (temper tantrums, forbidding one to do certain small things, etc.) over time. By the time one realizes that something's wrong, one is often too invested to just up and leave.

And again, to be fair, perhaps some of the time this does happen. (I wouldn't know from experience; I've never been in a relationship that ended this way - feel free to ask "who hurt you sweaty?")

But I'd wager a month's pay that the majority of the time, people did know - but just chose to ignore it, lie to themselves. When changes as simple as a Facebook app interface adjustment or a cafeteria menu change occur, people notice and ask questions - I don't buy that people don't do the same things, with their partners. Sure, they were invested, but investments always hold the promise of a future payoff: in this case, that they could "reform" a thug into a good man, that the problems would go away on their own, or that they weren't really problems but "quirks" or some such.

Again, when the writing's on the wall, these hopes are almost always delusions. When the denizens of r/wallstreetbets end up as pink wojaks, borderline bankrupt from their suicide bets on BitConnect, we label them slojaks for hoping they could multiply their money 10x on an obvious Ponzi scheme. Similarly, when some girl comes along complaining that her fuccboi cheated on her or that her ravebae played emotional games with her, we should label them for what they are: slojaks, for ignoring so many red flags of infidelity and abuse present from the start. More often than not (and again, I am not dealing in absolutes here!), such girls weren't the "victims" of anything but their own bad judgment and delusions.

To return to the original analogy: the frog did feel the twilight heat between cool and boiling. But rather than leaping from the pot when it still could, it wrote it off as "humid weather" or "temperature oversensitivity" instead, before its inevitable sordid fate.

I posted several opinions in r/unpopularopinion recently about women. I did not insult anyone. I did not use phrases like „ALL women”. I am not a frustrated incel and I do not want to be perceived as such.
