Practice practice practice. Theres a saying that comedy is 1 out of every 10 jokes. Learning to recognize opportunities as they come, and taking them comes with time. It won't come if you don't try though. As with your friends, shit-tests are shit-tests all the same. If I'm getting shit-tested by someone I considered an equal I typically respond in the exact same manner. By this I mean addressing their statement with a remark on the similar level, and if they push I'm usually swift to deal with any opposition I considered over the top. If you're being insulted with a one-liner remark e.g.; "I heard Drengrr did (insert something embarrassing or whatever the fuck) this one time" a good response is to just act coy. Give a devilish smile, embrace the "badness" and boom - you seem witty.

For me, half of my wit comes from my mannerism of just not saying anything at all. I act out a lot of response through my body language, and people seem to love it.

Construction/warehouse

These are where men learn how to deal with other men.

You are going to get shit for do your job badly
You are going to give shit for other people doing their job badly
You are going to get your balls busted
You are going to bust other peoples balls

Nothing will turn a boy into a man (these days anyways) like working in a rough environment. Warehouses and construction are the best ones.

Find your own style. Deliver with conviction. Status and social value have a big impact on how funny people find it.

Basically you're making a surprising observation or link. There's usually a twist. So you're doing A while really doing B. If that makes sense.

Being confident and outspoken is more than half of it. Just say shit that would make yourself fall over laughing but do a good job not showing as much as a smirk on your face.

Watching comedy is good, but it needs to be the right comedy. Try to find some stuff that's not pre-written. Like:

Bill Burr's walking tours

To start, find out what sense of humour/wit you have to begin with. This has to come from within. What would YOU laugh at? Start thinking of shit that makes you laugh. Enjoy the process, enjoy your thoughts. This will build confidence later on, when you bring people in your frame in delivering a joke/witticism. Sometimes you'll talk to someone and then later, thinking about the conversation, you'll realize you could've said something else with much better/funnier/wittier effect. Has that ever happened to you? Focus on that. It's already there and you can just refine it, train your mind to think faster.

...As opposed to watching comedy and trying to imitate professional stand-up artists. That's a horrible way to do it. You want it to develop naturally, and be unique to you. Know your humour. Analysis of your thought process/rections and your surroundings must occur quickly, and remember: in the end you're just entertaining yourself. No pressure. Wit and humour just happen. Don't force that shit
