The adjustment to post-grad life has been a bit difficult for me. All of my time and energy in college was spent attaining that coveted (and overpriced) college degree. But now that I am on the top of the college mountain, I am a bit lost on what to do next. This is a similar feeling I got after high school with everybody going on their separate ways in life. After graduating from college, I am fortunate to be entering a good career that I am passionate about; however, other than starting work, I am feeling "stuck".
I am finding time to improve, but I am lacking a bit in the goals department.
I liked college because it was easy (for me) to set goals with a clear purpose and achieve them e.g. study hard for a high GPA so I can become a college graduate, get internships so I can get a full time job, go out to events so I can meet new people and develop socially, travel so I can develop new world views, etc.
Of course, some of these goals and purposes are going carry over to my post-grad life, but Mon-Fri I am mostly focused on work so I can maximize my professional career. I will keep working out, socializing, and reading during the work week. As you can tell by now, I am very goals oriented, and they keep me accountable.
Part of this personal dilemma also bleeds into the classic TRP introspection of what is my mission in life? Every man has to define his own mission and his purpose in life. I am still working on my mission, but I believe I have most of it down already (or a rough draft at least). Alas, the last thing I need are goals that I can measure and achieve for the next 60+ years of my life.
I am also realizing that I am self-isolating myself from my college buddies due to COVID-19 and a desire to become successful professionally. Many of my college friends do not have full time offers after graduation or unfortunately got laid off from this virus outbreak. A combination of everything above is making me prioritize my work and I feel very blessed to have a full time job coming out of college right now.
TL/DR: What are your goals that you have set for yourself after college?
My goals have been scattered recently due to cabin fever, but I am dabbling in the ideas of running a marathon/triathlon, going abroad to ten countries by the age of 30, reading a book every two weeks, new lift PRs, approaching every girl I am attracted to, becoming more involved in my community and mentoring young people, networking with professionals, and starting my own business in the future. I like aspects of all of these goals, but again, nothing that really "clicks" for me.
