I took a girl out to a sports bar and shortly after sitting down and ordering drinks and food the girl gets up to use the restroom. A couple of guys were sitting down a couple of stools from us and while she was gone one of them asked me if it was okay to buy her a drink. I responded it would be okay as long as he got me one also. I bar-tended for a few years and was told it was common courtesy if you're going to order drinks for a girl that you'd better order two if she's with a guy. The guy was totally cool about it, and it turned out that he had served in the military with the girls ex, and was just trying to be nice. I learned this while she was gone and we made small talk.

Anyway, the girl gets back and when the drinks come she asks about it. I tell her, and she goes over to talk to the guys. No real flirting or anything of that sort. Just her and the guys talking about her ex and whatnot and their time in the military. She didn't know who the guys were at the time, but one of them recognized her and wanted to be nice.

Later on while we are eating and the guys leave, she kind of freaks out about me asking him to order two. I told her it was the polite thing for him to do. She can't get over it and and I try to explain that if some girl had sent me a drink and not her, what would she think. She pulls a total "I'd be fine with that, I wouldn't ask her to but me one!".

Any takes on this from?
