Preface: Really looking for some advice from older men here and I can't thank you enough for reading this / helping me out.

Back story:

  1. I just turned 24

  2. Come from a well off family

  3. Have always had expenses paid for by my parents (After college, June 2016, I started working so I started paying for stuff that I wanted and started saving $$, stuff I needed aka gas/food $ etc always came from my parents)

  4. Have college degree

  5. Have experience in sales (Real estate 2 years, car sales for the past few months)

With that said, I just feel disgusted at myself, I don't even feel like a man tbh. Just some average person floating in this world. And every time I seriously try to think about the issue it comes back to the fact that i'm so dam comfortable in my current situation ,where I don't really have to PUSH for anything.

I have had these thoughts for a while after graduating, and decided to move out of my parents home 6 months ago in order to see if independence would help. Well it hasn't, I still rely on my parents $$ for expenses, they still have influence on my life (For example, I HAVE to be at our new years party, I HAVE to be at our get together today, etc)

Moving out has given me some mental peace (not being around my family 24/7 anymore) but the core issue is still there.

Whats REALLY exacerbated this problem is I caught a case of oneitis recently.

Even though I have been part of this community for a year and have read countless of pages of text/stories from others, I still obsess over this girl in my head. I won't go into detail about the girl too much, point is, I relay it back to the fact that I have no other god dam worries in life so all my thoughts go to this girl, or girls in general, or video games, or tv, ETC ETC.

With all of this said, the only logical thing I can think of, based on a lot of what I have read here, is I need to focus on other parts of life, and in my circumstance, in order to do that I feel like I have to fully cut away from my family for at least a year or two..I feel like I need to struggle a little. Have zero access to money from my parents, zero influence from them.

I want 100% independence, I want my thoughts to go towards improving my situation and not just towards distractions like this oneitis (girls in general). I understand that I can of course strive for the best without moving states / cities, but the fact that I can fallback on my family for comfort / money / support has always set me back in my opinion..

Right now I am originally thinking:

  1. Opening a new/separate bank account
  2. Applying for out of state jobs
  3. Looking for residence once / if I get a job

I live inSoCal so I figure most places in the USA will have less cost of living

This obviously seems easier on paper, hence why I made this thread looking for some real life examples.

I would love some advice / stories on how some other guys here have made this jump.
