Just go. Even if you sit at the bar nursing a beer all night at least you actually did it. Watch and listen to the other people and find the humor in what they say and do. Have fun, even if it's just entertaining yourself.

I recently got out of a 3 year LTR and going out alone has worked wonders. I have a bar that I watch football at, I go and just enjoy my alone while chatting with the regulars about random shit.

On the other hand I have got about 5 bartenders and waitresses numbers by just hanging out on a bar patio.

Throw yourself out there man, it might sound like an uncomfortable experience but people are more likely to strike conversation with you since you won't be with a friend in your own little bubble.

I'm by no means outgoing and have had positive experiences in this situation. It feels liberating to not have to rely on finding someone in order to do an activity you really want to do.

I went out alone once to my college's super bowl party. Did not know a single person there. They had free food so I went.

And there groups of people sitting at a table (mostly girls were there BTW) and I just sat at the table. Made conversations with them, asking them about what team they rooting for and all that jazz.

Saw another girl sitting by herself. Same position as me I guess, she did not know anyone there, walked up to her and asked if I could sit with her because she looked bored. We dated for a bit.

If I were you I just go. Especially school events. You can meet tons of people there and get known around campus. And trust me I'm quite shy myself. I do go out a lot by myself at bars and stuff. Its all in your head. No one is looking at you thinking that you are a loser because you are there by yourself.

When I went out with friends that thought never came across me or anyone who I was with minds. Trust me, no one is judging you.
