[Start at "So here I am" to skip backstory] My situation right now is like this. 24 y.o., long time lurker, not completely BP but not completely RP yet either (it seems like I appear RP to others). Still in the fake it til you make it stage imo. I notice a lot of BP tendencies in other men though, which leads me to believe I'm a lot further along than I give myself credit for.
I have some college under my belt but didn't finish due to monetary issues. In about 28k worth of debt from student loans (not worried about this yet). I got a job out of college and quickly found myself skilled in understanding workplace dynamics and how things work. I got my first promotion within 3 months, another one 6 months after that, and when they offered the next promotion I turned it down because I was BP and very moral. I didn't want to accept the responsibility of the position knowing that I wouldn't be there long. Felt like I'd be doing them a disservice by accepting the position.
I've always seen myself as an aspiring entrepreneur and I was just using this job as a means to an end to pay rent and save up what was left. When they offered to make me GM of my own store, at such a young age, I had a breakdown, turned down the promotion, and quit the job to pursue a career. Moved to another state a month later.
The issue is that I didn't save much money and the money I did save was burnt through pretty fast. If I could go back, I'd take that promotion in a heartbeat and milk it for as long as I deemed necessary, but it doesn't work like that.
So here I am, 24 years old, in a major U.S. city, licensed to practice real estate as an agent. It's HARD. It's been about 6 months since I got licensed and I've worked with a few renters that never made a move and no buy/sell clients yet. So since it's commission only, that's 0 income from real estate in my first year. I've been able to pull in about $150/week consistently from side hustles but that's only enough for gas/food/haircut.
I'm staying with family right now and that is my biggest issue. Going from having your own place to not having anything to yourself is terrible. It seems like it's holding me back in a lot of aspects. I was more self aware, I had more motivation, I had something to lose, I tried new things more often, more confidence, I spent money on beneficial things because I had to, and I always had a place to take women.
I should probably mention that I stay with a plate 4-5 days a week (get over there at night, smash, watch some netflix or something, sleep, and I'm out of there by 9am next morning - none of my things stay there) and I'm starting to become irritated by her from time to time.
A lot of this would be solved by having my own place so I want to know, from an RP lens, how important is getting your own place ASAP by any means?
Is it worth putting my career on hold? Working nights somewhere? Or should I just suck it up and continue trying to turn RE into a career while being rent free? It almost causes a mild depression coming from a place where it seemed like your life was all together and only moving up, to a place that seems like a giant leap backwards.
My motivation to work on game is pretty low too, because I get female attention without much trying (looks and decent physical shape) and even if I wanted to close on one, logistics fucking suck right now and that's a headache to go through. Lost a lot of easy lays since I've been here due to logistics falling through.
I know the post is all over the place, but tl;dr - I want to get RP opinions on how urgent getting your own place is and what's worth giving up to get there asap. Am I rushing? or is it as urgent as I think it is?
