Music scenes are RP paradigms all of their own. I've been in the metal scene well over a decade. In my experience the only women who are real music fans are the weird autistic ones. The rest are just aspiring, or actual groupies and scene whores. Women get into music because it's "cool" and because their friends and guys they want to fuck think it's cool. They rarely have any actual comprehension of musicianship/artistry outside their typical surface level of understanding. Any halfway fuckable girl in a music scene is being passed around, typically around bands and promoters. You've got your token fat sluts and model trophy sluts (the actually hot ones). Competition is fierce. Metal in particular is full of betas and omegas. There are plenty of alphas too. It's easy to tell who's who at face value.

It really depends on the subgenre.
I realize the biggest losers and nerds don't go to concerts, but purely based on my observations:
Bands like Sabaton and Manowar attract the most nerds.
So does Iron Maiden and the newcomer 'Ghost'.

You won't see any nerds at a Pro-Pain, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Judas Priest concert.

Heavy metal is a genre with so many sub-genres it's hard to make general claims.

Another line of thinking is that intelligent men are more often nerds. And metal appeals more to the intelligent than to the dumb.
It has quite a few similarities to classical music (most metalheads love Bach for example).

I think its because its a genre made by nerds for nerds(Huge metal fan myself BTW). Lots of fantasy imagery in lyrical and musical themes that people use as a form of escapism. However this can be used to inspire you to greatness. Instead of being the guy listening to someone sing about being the hero, become the fucking hero.

I reckon I really got into the heavier shit when I realized I could use it to help vent out my anger.

After a night out having been rejected, or just not made any moves, I'd come home, plug my earphones in on full blast and just stick on some grindcore for a while.

I'm from Norway and enjoy black metal. It's complex music that won't use boobs to sell itself. Black metal concerts is mostly men. Of course there are posers and chicks with excessive cleavage. But, it's not been forced to be politically correct yet. The only time we needed to intervene in the culture was after some satanic murder and church burnings made world news. That's all in the past now. I also go to classical concerts and enjoy choir singing. Men's choir is the best. I know many people that like black metal and classical. Men of course. I don't know women that like both these genres.

Listen to whatever you want. I listen to shit to help modify my mood:

*Screamo for gym or to get pumped/angry.

*Mellow classics when I just want to relax

*SEB for driving
