TLDR: had to settle for a set up date for a fraternity date event. Want advice on how to hit it off better with a blind date like this. I already know I should've came with a date of my own but I just wanna know how I can improve in the future if I run into a situation like this again.
I am 20yrs old and in a midtier fraternity at a prestigious school. Every year in december we have an event, a Semiformal where we get a date, dress up, and rent a bus to a downtown bar. The floor space is reserved just for us.
I am studying engineering and am involved in several organizations on campus. It all piled onto me at the same time.. midterms, meetings, planning, etc. My original date bailed out because she forgot she wouldn't be in town that day. Long story short I could not find another date because it was way too close to finals and too short notice.
A buddy of mine hooks me up with someone. She contacts me first and I text her a bit during the day to try to get to know her. Its mediocre conversation to be honest. So the night goes exactly how I foresaw it. The buddy of mine just divvied up a friend group to the guys who didn't have dates. As soon as I finally met her, I introduced myself and led her to get some drinks at the house (Pregame before leaving to the bar). I pour some cups and then turn around and she's gone. Same thing happens with different scenarios happens at least like half a dozen more times in the span of an hour. I'm getting pissed off but not showing it, I'm here to relax and enjoy my night. We play a game of 2v2 billiards (I'm decently good and figured showing off my skill would improve things as it has in the past) but she disappears again in the middle of it. I talk to her on the bus ride but she's on her phone. We finally get to the bar, I buy a couple drinks and hand one to her and ofc she runs off. I find her one last time and ask her if she wants to sit somewhere, and she says sure. She goes up to another guy and starts talking to him facing him. I sit next to her like an idiot for a good minute before saying fuck it and walking away for good. I felt a little obligation to be a good date because she's in a sorority that we do events with but at this point what she did was rude, a terrible look, and did not deserve my time. I went off to the dance floor, had a good time chatting up my brothers, and their dates. I ended up dancing with a girl for the rest of the night, having a good time (i dont know where her date went), got her number. I didn't try to escalate because that would be a bad look. My date ended up coming back and feeling me up in the middle but I ignored her for the above reasons.
Did I handle this well? I'm asian, work out and have an amazing physique, I just have some signs of past acne. My social skills are decent. I think the girl was just being a bitch and leaving her early in the night like I did gave the best possible outcome. I would like to know your thoughts.
Thanks!
