Overcoming depression, step by step.

  1. Make a commitment to yourself to cut 200 junk calories from your diet by the end of the weekend. (This is one soda and one oreo per day.)

  2. It's Friday. By Monday have a plan to work out at least three days next week. Lift two days and do light cardio (walking or elliptical) on the other. Find a gym, workout center, weight room at your school, whatever. Make it happen.

  3. It's Friday. By Monday have a plan for one hobby you're interested in. Buy a model (There are some cool metal models on Amazon. ). Find an instrument you might like to play. There is free shit on YouTube and elsewhere to teach you to play any instrument from the alpenhorn to the piccolo trombone. Want to write a novel? National Novel Writing Month started two days ago. You're not too far behind to catch up.

  4. It's Friday. By Monday, I want you to have read No More Mister Nice Guy by Robert Glover. If you don't have it, PM me and I'll help you get it.

Don't worry about anything except for these four steps right now. We are your brothers and we will hold you accountable. Do this, and we'll worry about style, approach, and social life later. The first step is to find a direction for you that doesn't spiral downward.

I'll follow up with you on Monday.

RemindMe! Next Monday

Thanks for helping me out, I've already been lifting for the last few months and I've gone from 53kg to 62kg, but a lot of it is fat (at 5'8), I've finished no more Mr nice guy and I'm reading the rational male

I'll definitely start cardio soon, haven't done that in a long time and check out the other suggestions

Try and stay in the fat burning zone. You don't want to be pushing so hard that you lose muscle.

You'll get there. I have faith in you.

[–]jadensmithsson3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The same way you overcome anything. Get up and do something about it.

TRP helped a lot with my depression. It gave me things to do other than drugs and video games. I was lifting, reading, eating better, dressing better, isolating less and socializing more. At some point I realized that I needed a mission in my life, something more than just surviving until tomorrow. I found what I wanted to do with my life and now my days are much better than they used to be. It's still hard sometimes but TRP has given me a lot healthier coping strategies.

But, but... I have it on good authority that TRP is nothing more than a bunch of misogynistic bro boys circle jerking around about how they hate women!

Are you telling me that TRP's relentless focus on personal growth, commitment to one's self, and desire to help men improve is a good thing?

My hate for women only fueled the fire within me.

My hate for women only fueled the fire within me.

I don't hate women nearly as much as I hate the society that uses and manipulates them into believing their solipsistic narcissism is the reason for the world's existence. Many of them could be great people if they tried.

Some of them?

Okay, maybe a few of them could be people.

You must pull yourself out of bed and exercise! You should be eating healthy. Get a happy light! It's not something that goes away overnight. It can take months or even decades to push through. You just need a mission

[–]SuicidalVirginLoser 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah I have no mission tbh, rn I guess I'm just trying to score one date

[–]2SirKolbath0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some might say to make this your mission. However, I don't believe women should ever be a mission. That is why I recommend hobbies. Your mission will, and should grow from the things you love the most.

I kept my mind busy. Key phrase I follow is "dont think about it".

Thinking about your problems and not beeing able to do anything about them is trap. Right now do what you can.

And if you cant. Then bully yourself with inner girly voice.

Lift.

[–]Andgelyo0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Get mad at the world, use that anger to accomplish your goals. Read motivational stories. Look at past achievements. Work out. Eat right. Get support (friends, family, classmates). Move out of that depressing environment. Travel. See results. Repeat.

Hey Brother.

On Friday I gave you four tasks to try to complete before Monday. I told you that I would follow up today to see what your progress was like.

How did you do?

[–]SuicidalVirginLoser 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Hey dude so I managed to complete most of the tasks, but I've already read no more Mr nice guy so instead I was reading the rational male

The only task that I had real trouble with is the hobby task, as a hobby I'm trying to fix shit for fun, rn I'm trying to turn a skateboard deck into a wall decoration, but the only problem is I won't have anything to do once I complete it

Thanks for the help btw I really appreciate it

[–]2SirKolbath0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Good work!

So after you make that wall decoration, make one for a friend or loved one. Make a couple to sell. That sounds pretty cool.

[–]SuicidalVirginLoser 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah I'll probably do that, just got to perfect a few of the techniques and get some more scraps off thrift stores or the garbage

[–]2SirKolbath0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's the great thing about hobbies like this. You can get more and more detailed as you get practiced.

Got a job and a girlfriend. Snap out of it and actually do it.
