I'm a covert stutterer, implying that no one would really know unless I was forced to give a presentation or engage in a really long discourse where I could not find my way around certain words/sounds/syllables.
I find that entering the real working/corporate world has put a toll on my speech and confidence; which has reduced me to nothing more than a beta in my office. Not because I choose to be submissive, but simply given the fact that presentations are a daily-weekly responsibility and discussions in meetings are a must. I shy away from speaking up, asking the questions I want to ask, because I know that most people who do not stutter are unable to comprehend what is going through the speaker's mind when it's happening.
What you see is someone who looks simply retarded, trying to spit out a word with so much hesitance and weakness. When the stuttering gets bad, I immediately resort to losing eye contact because I can just see the smug look on the other person's face or sometimes pity knowing they have complete and ultimate control of the situation and conversation. I'm also unable to express my ideas, questions and effectively reflect my communication skills - which are ESSENTIAL in the business world.
All in all, this problem persists only in my work life because I feel I am not in control in a room full of executives/top dogs and people above me in the ladder. I know my place as an entry level analyst, and having a stutter makes it even worse for my bitch status as it is.
I have 3 plates on the side and am fit, and workout everyday. You wouldn't know this was a problem for me unless you worked with me.
Thanks.
TLDR; I have a stutter that comes up during work presentations, meetings and long discussions. What can I do to maintain frame in these situations and build the confidence to not give up complete control/power to the other individual(s) in the room.
