Read the chapter containing text around 'the council' in Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill. I don't recall the chapter but the process is there in how he was able to embody the traits of various subject matter experts.

I get why you would want a mentor (short cuts)

But why do you think you deserve a mentor? Do you feel Entitled to one? What do you have to offer in exchange for that persons's personal attention? Do you have a valuable skill, if not, think of what such people would need.

Also, be careful, you can end up measuring yourself by someone else's standards of success for longer than is healthy. You end up living in someone else's shadow.

Go be your own man.

How to meet HVM: work at a country/golf club/marinas (especially sports marinas), work at ski resorts

Alternative ideas: join Toastmasters, Lion's club (or any Country club), join a Private Club (not the stripper kind), get yourself into the expensive city gym (the one where everyone is male, over 40 and suited) and join a squash/tennis/whatever league. ( a lot of male bonding goes on and you make some good contacts)
