I went on vacation with my two siblings this past week. To save money we stayed in a hotel with two beds (there were three of us). It was night time and i was ready to go to bed, she wasn’t. A situation occurred where I told my older sister to lower the volume in the TV so I could go to sleep. I am very light when it comes to falling asleep, any inconstant noise will inhibit me to fall asleep.

It was about midnight and I told her to put subtitles on and lower the volume all the way since it was bothering me a lot. Keep in mind the previous night she did the same and I turned it off completely (I wasn’t watching it anyways) and I got on my phone. She was also on her phone but she refused to turn it off.

I tried to fall asleep again but just couldn’t. I proceeded to tell her “so just because you want to barely watch TV I shouldn’t sleep?” She gave me some bs excuse. And I said “fuck that,” grabbed the remote and turned it off. She lost it. She threatened to slap me. I told her to lower her voice because our brother was asleep and she proceeded to act like a 5 year old girl. She stared talking all this smack which I found very eye opening (emotion driven, AWALT). I told her she needs to respect my sleep (yeah haha like she’d sympathize) just like I did to hers the previous night. I remained calm while she blew up and negotiated to put the subtitles on, have it very very low. She finally gave it.

Writing this shit down sound is annoying af but I’d like to know how I handled this situation. I feel like I held frame but I don’t know if grabbing the remote an turning of the TV was a smart move. Could I have done something better? Am I being delusional expecting some sort of respect?

For future reference, I’m never sleeping in the same room with her or even vacationing with her again. We attended a family event which is why we went together.
