The classic meme of "just talk to people" isn't relevant in today's world if you want to make friends. With the inventions of messenger and snapchat, just talking isn't the only popular means of communication. Different people are on different social media at different times. It's embarrassing when somebody's on, say, Snapchat and you try to talk to them and they tell you they don't want to talk.

It's honestly overwhelming. As if talking to people face to face wasn't so fucking hard already. Now I have to make friends during specific times of the day at specific times of the week because everyone's glued to their phones.

Everybody makes friends by showing them snapchats of what they did in high school. All they do is pull out their phones and they can prove that they have social value. I can't do that because I don't have anything to show.

My lack of a social media presence on Snapchat (and Facebook to a lesser extent. I just post photos of trips I take on my motorcycle to random places in my state every six months or so) is cementing my reputation as an autistic weirdo.

At what times of the day is it appropriate to use Snapchat and Messenger?

Keep in mind that the university I go to has no social scene. There's no "uni life". There's only "your life after classes have finished" because Greek life and on campus living don't exist here, everybody keeps the same friends they make in high school, my classmates are 19-ish and I'm 22, I study computer science so my classes are filled with fat anime nerds I have nothing in common with and I can't throw parties because I live in a sharehouse with a strict landlord. I also have to work part-time in order to keep myself alive.

One last question before I go: I drive my motorcycle to school, so I always turn up to class in my riding gear with my helmet under my arms. Is this a good look or a weirdo loser look?
