Right off the bat I will tell you guys that I grew up without a strong male influence in my life. From 10 onward I worked to support my interests, instead of my parents supporting me like they did for my siblings. Needless to say, I don't have a very close relationship with my family (but I still live at home for financial reasons).
So now that I'm getting out in the world I'm starting to see that I've underachieved my whole life. Instead of being at MIT, I'm at an average state school. I surrounded myself with average friends and for a while was just doing average things.
That changed when I met a girl a year ago that was way out of my league - she liked me, but we never were able to hit it off; I wasn't alpha enough at the time. Shortly after that, I found TRP, got a mentor, and started on my path to manhood.
Well, I've got my career on lock. I haven't even graduated yet and I'm leading an 8-member team at work. The CEO is my mentor, and I've garnered many more managers and execs as valuable role models/mentors.
Having a year left in school, I'm obviously starting to get to the point where I really take off, so to speak. Still not the greatest with girls, but I've gotten better. Since working out more and swallowing the pill, it's gotten annoying how much attention I get from women and men; people will approach me at coffee shops and such to connect because they want to be a part of what I'm doing. I have a reputation in the city for the businesses I've started and people that know me (not always the right kind of people).
But it still leaves me with a few weaknesses, and the main one is the people I'm surrounded by - they are all average. Being in class pisses me off because, such as in my Entrepreneurship class, I'm the only one that is able to provide valuable contributions. As such, I have started to hate this school but will not transfer because it will prolong my stay in college.
I've already begun to let go of the friends that are average, though I stay in contact to provide advice as needed. What still irks me is being surrounded so often by mediocrity and I'm not sure how to fix it since I can't just quit school or move schools, but I have to spend a lot of time here to finish.
So, in the year I have left here, what can I do to surround myself with high value individuals (rather they be men because women are too much of a distraction at this point in my career) when I don't have the institutions to do so? Of course the ultimate goal is meeting women, but I need to start building a network of high value people - the social proof.
