I did not want to create a post like this for so long since I think It's somewhat pathetic, but after failing again and again and again, I figured I need to get a new perspective on this.
I'm 19, and I used to be addicted to video games, played them or wanted to play them for most of the day for 6+ hours on average, if not more. This led me to develop some nasty habits and I missed out on a good amount of things in those formative years.
However, since I was 14, I always had a constant struggle within, and I knew that what I was doing was not beneficial for me. Slowly, step by step, I tried to change.
In the last year and a half, I've been lifting 4~ times a week consistently, meditating 30 minutes every day, cold shower every morning, never smoked, haven't drinked in 6 months, no drugs except weed once every month or so on a rare occasion when out, eating on a consistent diet etc. The reception from other people, especially girls, has also been noticable.
Overall - I feel great... except for one thing - I still am lazy as ever when it comes to doing "real" work.
People here say that if you discipline yourself in general, you will discipline yourself elsewhere. What absolute horsecrap. No amount of consistent gym routine has helped me be productive in other aspects.
I get so bored with "normal" things after being addicted for so long that it's hard to do anything that takes attention and detail, and it's driving me insane. Worst of all - the business project I'm working on at the moment is related with graphic design, and for that I need to use my computer... and when I'm on my computer, it's like my entire nature changes. I get easily distracted, browse youtube, don't do any real work and when I look at the clock - it's time to go to sleep. It's pathetic, absolutely pathetic, and what's worse is I realise this and still am not capable of getting out of this vicious cycle after trying over and over and over again. Not only that, but my time is limited, and when It's limited, I don't have much choice, and yet somewhere deep in my conciousness I know that if it doesn't all work out, I will still be fine in my comfy bed and my parents won't kick me out. It's like there are no consequences for my bad actions, and I realise that, but I'm still not smart enough to truly understand the weight of this and "Create" that fire myself.
Perhaps I need a different approach, but I don't know where to even start, and perhaps that's why I'm creating this post in the first place. This post is more for myself, I needed to tell this to someone, suffering in silence can only last so long when you fail over and over and over again.
Maybe I want everything too fast. If you look at things objectively, maybe I have implemented a lot of good things in a year's time, increased my frame and genuinely enjoyed how life right now is except for my work habits, but I want to achieve more.
So askTRP, I'm asking - how do I improve my work ethic that's been ruined by quick dopamines and general laziness where I know I'll be "fine" if everything fails?
