I’ve been disturbed by something lately and wanted to get some thoughts from this crowd, because I value the world view we share here.

To give background I’m 23 and live in Turkey, with my own business putting me in op %5 financially.

This country can be a first world country and a third world country depending on neighborhoods and people you choose to hang with, with mixed places in between. %50 of people are conservatives in varying degrees and the rest %50 are seculars who worship the west.

There’s such resentment between people at the moment due to economic crisis and the secular youth who want more freedom and prosperity, they blame everything on traditionalism, religion thinking it’s pulling them back from following the west, although these same people’s dream is to migrate to the west and not work hard yet earn a lot. They love playing the victim card and resent that they live in such a country, and they wish we become carbon copies of the western world.

They don’t appreciate that for the most part we have strong family and social ties, wanting casual sex and slutty dress to be the norm and not getting judged for it. They look down upon the religious poor people who are content with the little they have, thinking they’re just ignorant about what life can offer.

I find it hard to be positive about future in such an environment where the educated are simply like this. I believe that although the west is enjoying economic prosperity it’s suffering from different diseases which are feminism, consumerism and nihilism.
