Should have just told her that she can go to the protest. No biggie. You'll make other plans and meet her next week.

Abundance mentality, outcome independence, DGAF-mentality.

What you are planning to do now should actually become a next. If she is starting drama around or on the first date, you cannot even answer with a soft-next. No bitch you did not even fuck is worth the hustle.

I'd just text her and tell her that something important came up and that you need to reschedule. Based on her level of intelligence, she'll know why. It is fine both ways though.

Don’t bring it up. If she does, stand your ground but keep it cool.

Don’t get upset or even annoyed. You’re not going and if she wants to go then you can hang out another time.
