'Monk Mode' Get out clause?

So if I'm getting this right... monk mode is just a get out clause when either I can't be bothered getting girls or I can't do it?

Seems to be in like 50% of posts on this sub reddit at the minute that someone is saying go monk mode or I'm going monk mode. I don't understand the point of it, maybe I'm missing something.

I could understand being single for say 6 months to really concentrate on your own stuff but the idea of having plates is minimum investment, maximum reward which means there should be plenty of time for your own stuff or no?
