I've been at my current employer for a few years now. I can safely say I'm one of the best performing employees at work.

I'm satisfied with my current job. The stress is low except for some busy periods, pay and benefits are very good.

My direct supervisor will retire in about half a year and he told me he sees his successor in me. He wants to recommend me to his superiors. I'll probably agree to it, even though the increase in pay is low compared to the increase in workload and stress.

Now the hing is, I've never seen myself as a leader. Whenever I had to do some personality tests I scored low on leadership. How can I prepare myself for a leadership role? I'll definitely have to work on my assertiveness. How the frack do I get started when I've never considered myself a leader?
