Outside of family, you can only have 1 or 2 friends who you can absolutely trust that they will always have your best interests at heart. You may have more close friends, or confidantes even, but if you spread your trust that thin it can't be worth very much. I've accepted that many people who I call "friends" are just part of the meta-game. Coming to this conclusion is similar to truly accepting AWALT. Except it is for people at large. Just like we are taught to believe that women are perfect angels who just want a nice guy who treats her right, and must eventually cast off those naive beliefs, we are taught to have faith that there is some basic level of human decency which we should readily expect people to abide by...and this too, we should be prepared to throw away.

TL; DR: Most friendships are fair-weather friendships.

Change your environment and find new friends.

I moved to a new state last year and knew no one. I made friends with higher quality people than I was usually hanging with. These friends were much more social, successful, fun, free, respectful, etc. I of course was also improving my SMV at the same time as you should be doing.

Fast forward to a month ago I was visiting my home town and hosted a party at my mom's house. I invited and caught up with some friends who I hadn't seen in years. This reunion honestly surprised me. I was getting shit tested by all these old friends and they all tried to treat me apparently like the beta I was before.

This girl made a disgusted face when she saw me and asked what I did to my face (I've grown my facial hair). I replied with, "What? Am i sun burnt?" (knowing she was taking about my facial hair). She then said in front of everyone, "It's so patchy". I immediately called her right out on it and said, "Did you hear that everyone? She doesn't like my facial hair!" and laughed it off but it was a tough one.

This other guy from high school that I didn't even invite but my cousin did was piss drunk and overall just being trashy. He kept hovering me and making tasteless comments. I just held frame and tried to get some distance from him. He made one comment that was nice to hear which was, "damn dude, you're tough. You look hard. You should be a security guard."

Anyways, having this "reunion" event made me become even more certain about a rule that I'd known for a while. The rule is that if somebody sees you as beta, they will always see you as beta, even if you've improved your SMV and it's going to take a lot of shit testing on your frame for them to get out of that label they have of you.

This is why you should NEVER date backwards in regards to improving your SMV and becoming "alpha" and thinking about trying to plate or game girls from your past.

That's when you know you are making progress. It's the same in all aspects of life. A good buddy of mine has been in local bands since highschool and everyone loved them but as soon as they started touring and got signed a lot of people turned in them and started talking shit.

Be polite and end conversations promptly. You have no benefits or mutual agreement to listen to them so why bother to give them time they don't deserve.
