I take the train home.
Sometimes I practice some of my favorite verses while awaiting the train arrival.
I did this last tonight , same as usual.
When I do this sometimes I get lost in it and FULL ON perform.
Upon doing this a group of young ladies stepped onto the concourse, and I distinctly remember hearing one of them saying "he's sexy."
I was in flow so I wasn't in the opt position to act, though I appreciated the compliment.
As my train arrives I board, they board.
I take my seat, they sit in the booth directly in front of me.
The remaining dispersed to the booth across the aisle from the rest: a girl and a guy (who I presume to be gay cause he's very feminine in his mannerisms and timbre) sat together, facing one another.
And one, lonely straggler girl (who I presume was the one who called me sexy; the voice sounded the same) had sat by herself, away from the group, in the booth directly across from me.
I got the distinct impression she wanted me to talk to her. After a disappointing moment of time, her friends called her over to sit with them.
Then the guy started making group conversation, arbitrarily mentioning how all the concerts he had went the performers started late.
And some other topics, I was not in the moment but in my mind, I was working on lyrics and deciphering flows , eyes closed , mouthing and scatting a bit under my breath.
So basically I was wondering was that some hint or invite for me to join them in conversation?
A hook for me to latch unto?
Or am I just imagining things and reading too much into it?
I am oblivious to social cues.
It doesn't seem beyond the imagination that he was giving me a “Jump Off” point for me to hop into to conversation with after hearing his friend's compliment about me on the way to the concourse.
They seemed to be really in party mode and may have wanted to pull me in.
I could also be delusional.
I don't know how those jump offs work in group settings and if it's socially competent to just “jump in” whenever I hear a jump off point that I have some competency in pops up. Seems overeager and overly invested (I can, again, be delusional).
I’m fairly certain (my gut says so) they were interested and wanted me to hop into their group and least share a bit of convo.
I’m rustier than old crawl space nails when it comes to socializing and could really use a perception check to make sure I’m liking at this whole thing right.
Anyway, would really appreciate the help and thanks in advance to all those who respond.
TL;DR: Attempting to decipher an train experience so I can intergrate it for further growth and perception. Questions to this are below:
-
Are jump off used to give invites into conversation if the initiating party has an interest in you at the time it was thrown?
-
How do Jump Off points work in social group settings with more than one person?
-
What if they are strangers you have no history with, does it all still work the same?
