Good evening all. I saw a post on AskTRP side bar about asking older RP'ers for advice for younger men, and the thread mentioned that student loans are to be avoided and are a "choker chain around your neck"

I have to ask - why?

Surely once you loan the money - yes it is 9k of debt per year (in the UK) but once you have earned your degree and have got yourself into a graduate job paying decent ££ then it won't be much of a problem? Surely this is better in the long run than staying at a mediocre job earning just over 15k a year for the rest of your life? (bit of an assumption - i know not everyone stays at the same job forever, but i do know of people who have stayed at the same job for a ridiculously long time)

I have heard that even when you do earn over £21000 a year (this is set to go up to £25k soon apparently) that you only pay back a small amount per month in comparison to your wage... it also says on that thread that student loans are something that "kills your future"

Am i making a mistake pursuing a degree?

Should i be doing something different?

I ask this as i have currently taken out 1 years loan already as im currently doing an access course and hoping to get into uni next year to pursue a degree

Cheers
