Reason i am asking asktrp this question is because i trust the opinion of the people on here a lot more than other subreddits
background:
im a sophomore(3 credits away from being a junior) in college 22 male in a computer science program and have had some REAL serious thoughts about quitting school recently. i have a 1.5 gpa and im currently on my second term of academic probation which means if i dont raise my gpa to at least 2.0 im kicked out. im retaking some classes this semester and plan on doing grade modifications which will easily raise my gpa above 2.0 and save my ass. (calculated all of this with a counselor) however this semester ive really been thinking about quitting it all together.
i never really liked the idea of going to college but only did so to please my parents. ive had shit grades all throughout college and have failed and retaken math multiple times. i finished all of my gen ed credits however 2 math classes prevent me from moving forward and taking actual computer related courses. (im yet to take a single computer course). this did not stop me from learning how to code however, i spent countless nights spending all night up teaching myself how to code from the age of 18 and even deploying that knowledge and creating a small side gig thing. (id call it a business but that sounds cheesy and i only make part time cash from it)
i have a freelancing coding thing that makes me some money (equivalent to working a part time) on the side and go to school full time. im in school most mornings from M-F and come home around 1pm to 2pm which limits my job options to only high school jobs (retail n shit).
question im asking:
i feel completely trapped in limbo. school is not going good for me at all and its not because i am stupid. i simply do not care about it. i dont give a shit about trig functions or anything else not related to actually learning hands on material. my activity in school has dropped even more to the point where im skipping a class or two every week. the other problem is i began watching a lot of youtube videos about people who work office jobs (day in the life type videos) and they really scare the shit out of me. i dont think i can do that and i think if i was glued behind a desk for 8 hrs a day i would off myself. im 22 now and had a couple jobs here and there throughout the years however never felt like i had a real job. from 16 to 22 ive worked as a seasonal painter, seasonal register clerk, and even worked at a call center (lasted 4 hrs before i quit, had another job lined up). i found the jobs where i was on my feet actually somewhat fun.
a large part of me just wants to quit school altogether, get a full time job doing something, and work on my coding on the side. i know this sounds ridiculous seeing as ive already done half the work however its gotten to the point where i just stay in bed and avoid class altogether. i want to get moving in life and feel like going to college is preventing me from getting a real job and starting my life.
